Feminism
Feminism has gotten a lot of hate in recent times and its sad that only a few people that take it to the extreme having ruined it. Everyone is under the concept that Feminism is that idea for women to have more power over men. I think it's partly the media's fault for Feminism's hate, all you see in the news is the extremists that take it too far and never about the real meaning. I wonder if we went out and asked everyone about what they Feminism means how many would know that it means gender equality. Emma Watson had the right idea with bringing men into it, it has too be shown that Feminism includes men. I was surprised when I saw Emma Watson giving a speech on Feminism in front of the UN. The speech was perfect with a mixture of personality and and facts which made it more power than someone else talking about Feminism without facts. 2087 until women in Africa can get a 2nd degree education, that's sad and a reason why we need feminism.

SweatShops
Pros
-Products can be created quickly
-Cheap and easy for companies to make profits
-No taxes to be payed
Cons
- Against human rights
-treating people so poorly it's almost to the point of slavery
While Sweatshops are a known problem they go against basic human rights. Too me it almost seems like slavery but companies throw in a few cents to make it look like they're paying well. Forced to work for 15-20 hours a day with little sleep in between I don't know how they do it when I can barely function with 8 hours of sleep and 8 hours of class. Kids have no childhood and should not be growing up working in poor conditions, making 8 cents an hour for cutting tags or little strands off. They're almost treated like animals, no power to do anything because major corporations will shut them down and leave them on the streets. It's downright terrible that people don't value the lives of others.

Consuming Kids
I found this video interesting, considering how much of it I heard during my childhood. My parents use to tell me the same thing about watching TV and about Obesity rates increasing in my generation. At that time I never believed it, but now that i've been shown information it's quite scary. I remember going to the grocery store thinking that Bob The Builder pasta shapes where way better than any other pasta and would constantly bother my parents into buying it. It seems stupid now, but as I young child I wasn't able to think that it didn't make a difference, and companies are abusing this. In the video the major companies were blaming it on the parents for "Not looking after their kids" and it was there "Responsibility", while this does have some truth it's hard for a parent to fight of people who spend their whole lives trying to market these items to kids, and it can be overwhelming for parents. People are studying children in an almost obsessive way trying to get them to buy goods from their company. Now that I think of it I'm trying to remember the last baby toy with out a media "Idol" or some sort of branding. The concept of marketing to babies so it's programmed in their brains to buy from cradle to grave, it genius from a marketing standpoint but the standpoint of those who are think about the future generations it's creepy. The products that claim to be "Teaching" kids ages 1-3 is alarming. It has been proven that kids don't take anything away from things presented to them from birth to two years of age. Grown people who have no care for the future generations exploiting the minds of young children to make an extra buck.

What Does this all mean?
It means that our world is evolving faster than we can keep up. Some jobs that interest us at a young age might not even be needed when it is time for us to study a career in college. The phones we had today have better technology then the computers that put men on the moon. A new age of people is coming, and to me I think America will no longer be a superpower. The stats provided in the video shows it, india has more honor students then we have students. How are we going to catch up, the technology that they will develop with smarter minds with blow us away. The fact that some jobs we have today were not needed at all ten years ago, nobody can even imagine what we'll need next. Look at 3d printing, you put in materials and you can literally print out items. Who knows what the future has in store for us or what we will create.

Story of Stuff Critique
After watching the four videos critiquing the original "Story of Stuff" my opinion drastically changed from agreeing to the original video to disagreeing. I feel a little silly now for believe some of the stuff without looking into it more. Many of her points were proven a lie and either exaggerated or extended from the truth. Some of the way's the man critiqued the video seemed a little childish and he could have done it in a more mature way. I'm all for people cross checking others work but at some points its a little cringeworthy with the big red letters that say "WRONG!" or "WHAT?!?". Personally I still think some thing are made to brake, but he does bring up a good point that it makes more sense to make something thats cheaper and doesn't last very long so technology can advance compared to something very expensive that lasts forever. Another point he wasn't able to persuade me was work in foreign countries, im still convinced that companies export work to other countries because it's cheaper.

Story of stuff
Today in 21st Century class we were tasked with watching a video called story of stuff. The video described about our government and the whole process of were stuff comes from and all the ideas that corporations have to sell us stuff. I agreed with almost all with the video said, going to foreign countries make these facilities that cloud the skies and rivers with toxins that kill everything. The video does talk about this but I think it's an important side note. We pollute their homes and mass produce products and then send them back to North America. Usually these countries and poor and and don't have laws to protect employees, which makes it cheeper for major corporations. As for things breaking every year, I can't totally relate. The amount of times I've heard someone who is quite a bit old 40+ say that things use to last much longer when they were kids. My dad had a razor that lasted him 21 years, and lawnmower that's older than me. If I had a dollar for every time my dad said something like "Everything's meant to break" or lecture me about companies plans on breaking things so you have to go in and buy a new one. One idea i've see thrown up is that cars are meant to break or have small problems so you go back to the dealership to get it repaired. It's a great way to make money and It's scary how many people don't notice that corporations do it, apple does something similar every year. The new Iphone is released and everyone buys it and its got a new charger that can't work with any other iphone. This brings up the topic I didn't agree with, in the video she talks about having to through out her computer because the new part won't fit in it. I have a PC at home and it's quite the opposite when it comes to changing parts, i've changed many parts that have fit in with ease. The process in which media and TV puts us into a cycle where we work, come home, see whats on Media and tv, buy it and and repeat the process because we need to money to pay for what we buy. I think this mostly had an effect on me when I was a kid, that exact seen we described in class, I saw the new lego on TV, totally forgot about the one I had just gotten and insist on buying the new one. I found this video extremely interesting and am looking forward to seeing the other video related to it.
